Today is my day for those stupid little chores.
Yes, you know, those tasks that take you 5-10 minutes to complete. Those mandatory ones you hate. Those admin ones. Those emails you don't want to reply to. Those phone calls you'd prefer to avoid.
That's life. We have to do what we love and what we hate. It's that balance that takes us to success, believe it or not.
As they're mandatory, I decided a long time ago to dedicate one focused day to them.
Any time I see a little tiny stupid task, I move it to that day.
By doing so, I get all these outcomes:
- I guarantee stupid little tiny tasks are done. I have no choice.
- I batch the process. Batching is heaven for us, productivity geeks.
- Motivation fuel. There's nothing better than completing a task: serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, endorphins.
By scheduling this process to a specific day, I get that huge boost of energy completing tasks gives you. Marking dozens of tasks as done is an enjoyable experience, as you may guess.
We need and love the sensation of completing things because that equals movement, moving forward, being closer to our goals.
Maybe those tasks are not so stupid...
"Much of the stress that people feel doesn't come from having too much to do. It comes from not finishing what they've started."
